At Fraunhofer IZI, the Antimicrobial Biotechnology Unit led by Dr. Belinda Loh is looking for a Master’s student to work on a thesis project starting in 2025. The group isolates and characterizes bacteriophages from the environment that might later be used for biotechnological or medical purposes. We also develop methods for enhancing phage screening. There are several Master’s thesis projects available: 1) to participate in growing our collection of phages and investigate those that need further characterization; 2) investigate the effects of phages on biofilm degradation; 3) genetic engineering of phages and prophages; 4) cloning, expressing and characterizing phage proteins. Your work location for the project will be the Fraunhofer Institute IZI in Leipzig. The duration of the project is flexible and depends on the requirements of your university and your preferred schedule.
